Method - Stool
The Microbiomix Metagenomic Mapping Test is an advanced stool test that provides a comprehensive assessment of the gut microbiome and digestive health.
Using a highly detailed technology called metagenomic shotgun sequencing, the test analyses the genetic material of microorganisms found in the stool sample to identify bacteria, viruses, fungi and other microbes living in the digestive tract.
Unlike traditional stool tests that look for only selected organisms, this test performs a broad and unbiased analysis, allowing it to detect over 28,000 microbial species. This provides a much more detailed picture of the gut microbiome, including organisms that may be difficult to culture or previously unidentified.
The test also assesses important digestive and inflammatory markers to help evaluate overall gut health, digestion, intestinal permeability (“leaky gut”) and immune function.
Markers Assessed Include:
- Beta Glucuronidase – associated with detoxification and hormone metabolism
- Calprotectin – a marker of intestinal inflammation
- Identification of 28,000+ microbial species – comprehensive microbiome analysis
- Pancreatic Elastase – assesses digestive enzyme production and pancreatic function
- pH – reflects the gut environment and microbial balance
- Short Chain Fatty Acids (SCFAs) including butyrate, acetate, propionate and valerate – important for gut lining health and inflammation regulation
- Secretory IgA – a marker of gut immune function
- Steatocrit – assesses fat digestion and absorption
- Transglutaminase IgA (tTG IgA) – associated with gluten related immune activity
- Zonulin – a marker linked to intestinal permeability (“leaky gut”)
This test may be useful for people experiencing symptoms such as:
- Abdominal pain
- Bloating, gas or distention
- Constipation
- Digestive discomfort
- Food sensitivities or intolerances
- Changes in bowel habits
It may also provide valuable insights in conditions associated with:
- IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
- IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease)
- Maldigestion or malabsorption
- Nutrient deficiencies
- Metabolic health concerns
- Gut inflammation or immune imbalance
The information from this test can help guide personalised nutrition, lifestyle and treatment strategies aimed at improving digestive health, microbiome balance and overall wellbeing.
